Nursing pillow reviews

This is a section for mothers-to-be who don't know how to choose a nursing pillow and want to find out more details about available options. The opinions expressed in these articles are personal, so they may not apply for your case. Read, get yourself informed, but don't forget to consider your needs and priorities when choosing a product. Always base your decision on the product featurest that will most probably satisfy your own needs.

Keep in mind that the baby will also have a word to say about your choice, because she's the one who is supposed to lay on the pillow while she gets breastfed. Too bad you can't ask her before you buy it.

This nursing pillow is designed for night time breastfeeding. It helps providing a proper spine-pelvis alignment for the baby, thus helping avoiding complications that might occur as a result of improper positioning. Nurse N Glow was invented by a Doctor of Chiropractic, Laura Bartner. It won the JPMA International Innovation Award and iParenting Media Award in 2005. This pillow features a built-in soft glow light, just enough for the mother to see what she’s doing, without having to wake up her partner. There’s a belief that breastfeeding while laying in bed may facilitate lactation and a better milk flow. We weren’t able to find medical studies to support this statement, but it’s certain that nursing in bed is more comfortable than getting out of the bed several times a night. Thanks to a programmable microchip, the onboard LED light turns off automatically after 30 minutes, so the chances that the bed partner or the baby wake up are minimum. The pillow has a side pocket, very handy for keeping breast pads, baby pacifiers or other small items inside. Another useful feature is the removable pillowcase, which can be easily detached and washed as many times as needed.

Nurse N Glow weighs 1.2 lbs and its size is 14” x 10” x 4.75”. It costs $40, a reasonable price if we think that a good night time rest of your co-sleeping partner is priceless. Besides, its soft light can help the baby fall asleep easier, at least this is what a couple of moms told us.

The difference between this pillow and other ones is that this is not meant to be attached to the mother’s waist, so in case you want to don’t want to breastfeed your infant only when in bed, you could probably use a second nursing pillow such as Boppy or My Breast Friend.

Twins! What a blessing! This is the first thought that comes to mind when you hear you’ve got twins. All thoughts that follow are related to making sure to buy everything in double size or quantity: double clothing items, double diapers, double-sized stroller, double cribs. It's true, your wallet will surely feel the difference from one to two babies, but it’s maybe a good thing to have the children growing together and save you from going through another birth again. Nursing pillows make no exception, because if your twins get hungry in the same time, you’ll need to be able to feed them both. This twin nursing pillow is designed to accommodate two babies and it fits up to 54” waist size. Its angled top surface allows the correct positioning of the babies: you just have to position them on the sides, like in the photo, and make sure they are facing you. When positioned correctly, babies latch on quickly, so they get adequate feeding and the mom gets no sore nipples.

Leachco Cuddle-U is really more than a nursing pillow. It has a seat wrap which prevents sliding out and offers an additional support. It can be adjusted to the baby’s size, so you can use it on newborn babies as well as on bigger infants. Being much softer than My Brest Friend, this pillow is a winner for more difficult babies who don’t like to lay down on the stiffness offered by the firm foam that’s inside of My Brest Friend. Leachco Cuddle-U can also be used as a support for the baby when he learns to sit or when resting after breastfeeding.

The dimensions of the pillow are 20” x 18” x 7” and its weight is 2.3 pounds. The pillow is not adjustable to the waist size, so big mothers will have troubles in fitting it on. However, they can try to use it sideways, if they don’t find a better option for keeping the baby in the correct position when breastfeeding. The pillow features a hidden pocket on the bottom side, thus being very easy to get ready for breastfeeding when the time comes (or when the baby says the time came).

Boppy is a doughnut-shaped pillow that was initially designed only as infant support, but it quickly became one of the most popular nursing pillows. Inexpensive, simple and functional, the Boppy conquered the heart of many breastfeeding mothers, because it offered them the freedom to use only one hand when nursing and do other things with the other hand such as answering their emails or using the cell phone.

Although cheap and easy to put on, there were mothers who felt like it was not enough for a good backrest and they had to use additional pillows. On the contrary, others saw it as a real life saver when they used it for more comfortable sitting in hard chairs or for supporting themselves at night, during heartburn attacks. Personal experience is definitely the most important of all, no matter what other people may say to you: if it works well for you, you’ll love it. If it doesn’t make your life better, just get yourself another one, a My Brest Friend or anything else that may offer you more appealing features and benefits.

My Brest Friend pillows are probably among the best ones available on the market. The nicest features are the backrest support, which offers the nursing mother a comfortable and relaxing position, and the fact that it can be adjusted to the waist, so it would fit even when the mother will start to recover to her shape before pregnancy. The pillow give a good support for the baby as well, thus enabling the correct latching position. The adjustable strap is available in two variants: regular and deluxe. The regular one is attached via a buckle, while the deluxe one has a Velcro strap which helps it fix better. Although it was introduced as an improvement, the Velcro is perceived as annoying by some mothers, because its detaching noise wakes up the baby.
